Staying in a hostel is a rare but very fulfilling experience, that's why it's most oftenly called "A home away from home". It's perhaps the most enriching and enjoyable time in a student's career life, where experiences are shared, new acquaintances are made and most importantly, LIFE is learnt. To recollect the wonderful time spent at the MITE Hostel, the boarders celebrated Hostel day on 4th November 2009. The formal function started at around 6:30 pm, followed by a variety of cultural events by the students, after which the boarders were treated to a sumptous gala dinner. Finally, an energetic DJ party concluded the evening celebrations. The day was an amazing one, and made each boarder believe that hostel life is indeed, very special.

I apologize for not posting, and posting after so many days.
Actually as you all know about the new Bus Routes being recently added , now its the all brand new buses in these routes.
Totally there are 6 buses for the MITE students, 5 big buses to all routes with 2 to Udupi and 2 to Mangalore. One small bus to Kinnigoli and now its time to welcome 2 buses for Karkala too.
Yes now there are 7 buses totally. The management has decided to go for one more small bus to Karkala. Well the routes to this new bus is not yet decided.
Good news for all the sudents coming from karkala in college bus, including me. Now we can expect some less standings since the addition of this bus.

Hispeed Wifi Activated in MITE campus a few weeks ago. Students can access wireless internet @ speeds upto 2Mbps. Two Access points are added for now in the main block which have total range of nearly 500 meters. Students are given access to this service once they register their laptops MAC address with the System Administrator( also see the post MAC ADDRESS for more info). Students can access internet throughout the campus without any loss of connectivity with access points. New access points are going to be added in the New Mechanical Block also. The Wifi is available 24*7 @ MITE.

A thought provoking seminar on "The burning issue of Swine flu" was hosted by ECSA today, here at the MITE campus. Dr. Ashwin Pai ,Surgeon, Wenlock Hospital , Mangalore , briefed students on the causes, symptoms and precautionary measures to be taken against Swine Flu.
Here's a gist of it:
H1N1 virus or the Swine flu is a mutant virus commonly causing flu in pigs and other animals.This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. Children, pregnant women and elderly people stand a higher risk of contracting the virus. The symptoms of H1N1 (swine) flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
Spread of H1N1 (swine) flu can occur in two ways:
- Through contact with infected pigs or environments contaminated with swine flu virus.Eating pork does not transmit this virus.
- Human to human transmission.
Droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person move through the air. The virus can spread when a person touches respiratory droplets from an infected person on a surface like a desk, for example, and then touches his own eyes, mouth or nose before washing his hands.People with H1N1 infection are contagious as long as they are symptomatic and possible for up to 7 days following illness onset. Presently, there is no vaccine available against H1N1,but a few simple precautionary measures can go a long way in preventing the disease:
- Wash your hands frequently.
- Cover your mouth or nose when you cough or sneeze.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
- Avoid close contact with sick people.
In the case of high fever and cough which subsides but returns soon in a worsened form the patient is advised to visit the hospital immediately.
Warning: Aspirin (pain reliever) , if used to treat H1N1 symptoms can cause Reye's Syndrome(severe damage of the liver) which can lead to death.
This hour long session was an eye opener and gave the students a better understanding of the H1N1 virus.

ROCK SHOW BY : SYNAPS
An event which celebrated the near completion of yet another fruitful year at our MITE campus was the college day(30 April 2009).The annual report was read out and prizes were distributed.
This was followed by excellent stage performances by the students. But the main highlight of the evening was the live rockband performance by a popular rockband group,SYNAPS,Bangalore which stole the show.Their trailblazing performance set hearts on fire and evoked appreciation from the entire MITE fraternity as everyone was mesmerized by the rhythm and music.The performance received a thunderous applause as the students enjoyed each and every moment of the show.The show etched special memories in each and every heart and proved to be a delightful event indeed!

Nrithyollasa an eastern dance performance by Mr and Mrs.Dr.Sanjay Shama and their troop enthralled the audience.The graceful dancers left the audience spell bound..
The Annual sports day of our college was conducted on 27th April 2009. Our principal Dr.B Shankarananda inaugurated the sports meet.All students participated actively and exibited their sporting talents. Sports secretary Mr. Sujith Shetty and his team orgaised the soprts day in a well organised manner.Intra-college football matches and cricket matches were also held in this regard.

The mechanical association of MITE "MECHMITES" was inaugurated today. The function was presided by Prof G.R RAI(former principal NMAMIT,nitte) . The present DEAN of NMAMIT nitte Dr B.S SAMAGA was the chief guest for the program. The system administrator of MITE Mr Subramanyan Anand has requested all students to submit the MAC ADDRESS of their personal laptops to their respective class representatives for the activation of WIFI in the MITE campus.
WHAT EXACTLY IS MAC ADDRESS.....?
MAC ADDRESS is nothing but THE PHYSICAL ADDRESS of the network hardware component of your system. In computer networking, a Media Access Control address (MAC address)physical address is a quasi-unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards (NICs) by the manufacturer for identification. it is unique for a particular system and it cannot be changed unless the hardware itself is changed.
WHY IS IT REQUIRED?
By submiting MAC ADDRESS a student gets registered to the college`s WIFI access point and then can use internet , without which the laptop fails to register itself to the NETWoRK of the college.Since MAC ADDRESS is unique the ADMINISTRATOR can trace all happenings in the network. It is a safety measure and also secures the college WIFI network from outsiders.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Class representatives should take care while noting down the MAC ADDRESS of the laptops

CORE QUIZ PRELIMS:
The CORE QUIZ preliminary round was conducted on FEB 20th. Nearly 43 Teams paarticipated in the round. each team had to answer 30 MCQ`s the topic of the quiz was :GENERAL COMPUTERS ( SOFTWARE and HARDWARE ). The competition was well organised , nearly 3LABS were used for this purpose . The CORE team had used a quiz software for the purpose of testing the participants, All the teams had to do was to CLICK the right answer . Out of the 43 teams , all teams answered well, but only the 5 teams with top scores were selected for he next round.

Under the able guidance of our HOD : Prof Manjunath Hebbagilu and his faculty team and the interest of the COMPUTER SCIENCE STUDENTS OF ( 2007-2008) BATCH, the official organisation "CORE" was developed.
.The plans of forming the association in the early 3rd semester was postponed to 4th sem because of the hectic schedule of the 3rd semester. But now we have officially released our association "CORE" by conducting a COMPUER QUIZ COMPETITON for the entire college. Though not officially inaugurated the association had an overwhelming response from students of all classes and branches. THE INAUGURATION of the association to be held in early april 09 the association has planned to conduct a SEMINAR competition after the final round of the quiz competition in MARCH 09.

MITE has a very good fleet of college buses. Since the opening of the college in 2007-2008, the college has 3 new buses in its fleet.Each bus is attractively built with good suspension system. All buses in the fleet are look alikes. Every bus has semi delux executive seats for the comfort of the students. First Aid Box and Fire extinguishers are also present in the college bus.

MITE workshop is situated in the mechanical block of the college*. The workshop has top in the class machinery and tools. Every student is given a seperate set of tools during workshop. The workshop has welding, drilling, milling, sheet metal, carpentry sections also. All necessary safety precautions are taken care off.

MITE has a very well equiped physics lab . The lab is well furnished has all necessary instuments and apparatus.Situated in the ground floor it is well ventilated. Seperate dark room is present within the lab itself. It has the capacity of 30 students.

CHEMISTRY LAB:
MITE has a very good and modern type chemistry lab. Situated in the ground floor on the right wing of the main college building the lab meets all the requirements of a modern chemistry lab.It has all grade A glassware and apparatus. It also houses a seperate stock room for storing chemicals and a refrigration and drying facility also .It has all necessary safety features also. It has a capacity of 30students.

MITE LIBRARY:
Mite library is situated in the ground floor of the main college building. It is a very vast place. It is centrally air conditioned. It is divided into 2 major sections . The first one is the REFERENCE SECTION . This section covers the major portion of the library. A student has the choice of refering any book of his choice be it engineering, management or any other book available in the library. Personal text books of the student are not allowed in here. In addition to it to update and expand the knowledge of the student computers are also provided. A student can login and go through online journals and browse educational sites through them. The library here is completely digitized and all records as well as e-books are loaded into the computers. a student can search for the copy of the book he wants from the librarys own database software . To enhance group study and discuss on various topics the other portion of the library known as GROUP DISCUSSION SECTION is introduced. the students can peak to each other here, discuss on various topics andstay well informed. this room is soundproof so that sound from here doesnt leak out to the REFERENCE SECTION.

COMPUTER CONCEPTS AND PROGRAMMING LAB(CCP LAB):
This is a snapshot of one of the ccp labs of our college . We have 3 CCP labs in the ground floor of the main collge building. Each ccp lab has 30 computers each. it is also well furnished and centrally airconditioned. High speed LAN connects each pc in all the three labs. every lab is provided with 2 printers each.

To ensure maximum comfort as well as keeping the ergonomics and to control work stress the lab furnitures have been desigend appropriately. The lab is one of the best across karnataka. It has a seating capacity of 60 students. The computers are connected on a high speed network and ensure maximum job efficiency. The lab has lcd projectors . The instructor can show the demo of the given assignment from a centralised computer and the students can view it o their independent displays.this ensures individual teaching for all.
