MITE: SOFT SKILLS WORKSHOP

Soft skills workshop (Vacation Batch ) was held in MITE campus for Higher Semester students during their vacations. It was a week long program. It was held between 4 Jan 2010 to 10 Jan 2010.
The soft skills workshop was a joint venture of Infosys campus connect, I-point consultancy services and the MITE management. The program was brought to force by our chairman to benefit and prepare the students of MITE for the industry. The program was well planed and executed as per schedule. Asst prof Narendra U P from ISE and Sr lecturer Mr Ragavendra from MBA had taken the initiative for this program. Nearly 120 students participated in the workshop. The program featured several group activities for the students , talks on development of communication skills, corporate atmosphere, Ethics , and topics related to self development were given. Overall the workshop was a grand success as it was clearly evident from the improved skills that reflected from every student who attended it. The regular batch of the workshop will be conducted once the college reopens.

MITE: HOSTEL DAY

Staying in a hostel is a rare but very fulfilling experience, that's why it's most oftenly called "A home away from home". It's perhaps the most enriching and enjoyable time in a student's career life, where experiences are shared, new acquaintances are made and most importantly, LIFE is learnt. To recollect the wonderful time spent at the MITE Hostel, the boarders celebrated Hostel day on 4th November 2009. The formal function started at around 6:30 pm, followed by a variety of cultural events by the students, after which the boarders were treated to a sumptous gala dinner. Finally, an energetic DJ party concluded the evening celebrations. The day was an amazing one, and made each boarder believe that hostel life is indeed, very special.

MITE: SEMINAR ON SWINE FLU AWARENESS

A thought provoking seminar on "The burning issue of Swine flu" was hosted by ECSA today, here at the MITE campus. Dr. Ashwin Pai ,Surgeon, Wenlock Hospital , Mangalore , briefed students on the causes, symptoms and precautionary measures to be taken against Swine Flu.

Here's a gist of it:

H1N1 virus or the Swine flu is a mutant virus commonly causing flu in pigs and other animals.This new virus was first detected in people in the United States in April 2009. Children, pregnant women and elderly people stand a higher risk of contracting the virus. The symptoms of H1N1 (swine) flu in people are similar to the symptoms of regular human flu and include fever, cough, sore throat, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue.
Spread of H1N1 (swine) flu can occur in two ways:

• Through contact with infected pigs or environments contaminated with swine flu virus.Eating pork does not transmit this virus.
• Human to human transmission.

Droplets from a cough or sneeze of an infected person move through the air. The virus can spread when a person touches respiratory droplets from an infected person on a surface like a desk, for example, and then touches his own eyes, mouth or nose before washing his hands.People with H1N1 infection are contagious as long as they are symptomatic and possible for up to 7 days following illness onset. Presently, there is no vaccine available against H1N1,but a few simple precautionary measures can go a long way in preventing the disease:

• Wash your hands frequently.
• Cover your mouth or nose when you cough or sneeze.
• Avoid touching your eyes, nose or mouth.
• Avoid close contact with sick people.

In the case of high fever and cough which subsides but returns soon in a worsened form the patient is advised to visit the hospital immediately.

Warning: Aspirin (pain reliever) , if used to treat H1N1 symptoms can cause Reye's Syndrome(severe damage of the liver) which can lead to death.

This hour long session was an eye opener and gave the students a better understanding of the H1N1 virus.

• VTU validation fees : Rs.290 , payable at the college office.

MITE SENTIA 09 :

MITE has been growing at a rapid pace,taking giant leaps to ensure allround development of its students.In a similar attempt to tap the latent potential in the budding youngsters of MITE,"SENTIA",a literary and cultural fest was held in the MITE campus in the month of April.This put the college in a festive mood as students participated in a wide array of competitions ranging from music and dance to fine arts and literature.Various contests like quiz,essay,elocutin,painting,collage,mehendi,creative writing and many more were held which captured the creative genius in students.Altogether the fest proved as an enriching and enlightening experience and brought about teamspirit and oneness in MITE.

Nrithyollasa an eastern dance performance by Mr and Mrs.Dr.Sanjay Shama and their troop enthralled the audience.The graceful dancers left the audience spell bound..

The mechanical association of MITE "MECHMITES" was inaugurated today. The function was presided by Prof G.R RAI(former principal NMAMIT,nitte) . The present DEAN of NMAMIT nitte Dr B.S SAMAGA was the chief guest for the program. Principal Dr B SHANKARANANDA,The HOD of mechanical department Prof RAJESH RAI P, the advisor to the mech dept Prof H.K.V RAO , student President and other members and all the sudents of mechanical dept were present during the function.

MITE: REQUEST FOR WIRELESS MAC ADDRESS

The system administrator of MITE  Mr Subramanyan Anand has requested all students to submit the MAC ADDRESS of their personal laptops to their respective class representatives for the activation of WIFI in the MITE campus.

WHAT EXACTLY IS MAC ADDRESS.....?

MAC ADDRESS  is nothing but THE PHYSICAL ADDRESS  of the network hardware component  of your system. In computer networking, a Media Access Control address (MAC address)physical address is a quasi-unique identifier assigned to most network adapters or network interface cards (NICs) by the manufacturer for identification. it is unique for a particular system and it cannot be changed unless the hardware itself is changed. 

WHY IS IT REQUIRED?

By submiting MAC ADDRESS a student gets registered to the college`s WIFI access point and then can use internet , without which the laptop fails to register itself to the NETWoRK of the college.Since MAC ADDRESS is unique the ADMINISTRATOR can trace  all happenings in the network. It is a safety measure and also secures the college WIFI network from outsiders.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:

Class representatives should take care while noting down the MAC ADDRESS of the laptops

STEP 1: go to RUN type CMD

STEP2: IN CMD type IPCONFIG/ALL

STEP3: many physical address will be displayed BUT ONLY THE WIRELESS PHYSICAL ADDRESS IS REQUIRED

STEP4: CROSS VERIFY THE MAC ADDRESS AFTER NOTING DOWN

MITE: CORE QUIZ PRELIMINARY ROUND

CORE QUIZ PRELIMS:

The CORE QUIZ preliminary round was conducted on FEB 20th. Nearly 43 Teams paarticipated in the round. each team had to answer 30 MCQ`s the topic  of the quiz was :GENERAL COMPUTERS ( SOFTWARE and HARDWARE ). The competition was well organised , nearly 3LABS were used for this purpose . The CORE team had used a quiz software for the purpose of testing the participants, All the teams had to do was to CLICK the right answer . Out of the 43 teams , all teams answered well, but only the 5 teams with top scores were selected for he next round.
